The Challenge

As Quality Manager, Olivia was responsible for ensuring all products leaving the production line consistently met stringent food safety and quality standards.

The production process relied on oils and operational fluids to maintain efficiency. However, these substances frequently resulted in minor leaks and drips along the production line, creating ongoing housekeeping challenges.

To manage this, loose absorbent granules were being used to contain spills. While partially effective, this approach introduced a far more critical risk:

  • Migration of absorbent granules across the facility
  • Contamination risk within a food-grade environment
  • Potential for foreign material entering the production line
  • Increased audit and compliance exposure

In addition, the use of loose absorbents created inefficiencies in cleaning processes and introduced slip hazards if not consistently managed.

The site required a solution that would eliminate contamination risk while improving safety and operational efficiency.


The Hazero Approach

Hazero worked closely with the site to assess both the contamination risk and operational workflow. Taking a proactive, solution-driven approach, Hazero identified that the root issue was not the presence of spills, but the method being used to manage them.

Rather than continuing with loose absorbents, Hazero recommended a controlled, contained absorption system:

  • Elimination of loose absorbent granules from the site
  • Deployment of Oil Only Sorbent Rolls along the production line
  • Strategic placement to intercept leaks at source
  • Continuous coverage to create a clean, stable walking surface

This approach aligned with Hazero’s core principle: removing risk pathways rather than managing downstream consequences.

The transition to sorbent rolls delivered immediate improvements across hygiene, safety, and efficiency.
