Biohazard Spill Kits – An Overview

What is a Spill Kit?

We always say there are two types: a spill kit and a good spill kit!

A spill kit is designed to give the user the ability to contain and clean-up a hazardous substance spill. A good spill kit will do that but will also give the user the confidence that the contents are applicable for the substances in question (i.e., won’t react) and will work rapidly when put into action.

The contents of a ‘good spill kit’ will always be action-ready because they won’t break down or go off when stored over time.

What essentially are biohazards?

Biohazards, also known as biological hazards, typically refer to biological substances that pose a risk to human health. This can include human medical waste, animal waste, viruses or toxins.

One of the most common biohazards is blood and body fluids, which are understandably a risk to personnel at most, if not all working environments.

Body Fluid Spill Kit

Cleaning up body fluids including vomit, urine, blood and faeces is a very sensitive task, and one that requires both care and efficiency.

This compact, single-use kit makes an unpleasant task that much easier, by providing the responder with the protection and tools to contain the spilt liquid and supress any odours, and then clean up and dispose of the waste.

Packed into a compact cardboard box, this is a very handy asset for childcare centres, education and aged care facilities, as well as other public facing workplaces.

Contents:

  • Face mask with eye shield
  • Protective apron and gloves
  • Absorbent powder sachet
  • Scoop and scraper
  • Clinical waste bag and tie
  • Cloth and antiseptic towelette

Biohazard Spill Kit

This kit is essentially a larger version of the Body Fluid Spill Kit. It features more absorbent capability and protection for responders, and is packed into a tough, highly visible yellow PVC case, that can be positioned in high-risk areas for quick access.

It comes with two absorbent cleaning cloths, a bottle of PH neutral detergent, as well as a fine absorbent that will quickly absorb liquids, while supressing any vapours.

The clinical waste bags ensure all waste is safely and correctly contained.

Contents:

  • Face mask with eye shield
  • Protective apron and gloves
  • Absorbent powder sachet
  • Large scoop and scraper
  • 2 x clinical waste bags and ties
  • 2 x cleaning cloths
